PLEDGES AND PRINCIPLES

One of the most fundamental aspects of martial arts training is character development. At Reflect Martial Arts, the Promise, Pledge, and Principles are central to how we teach Choi Kwang Do.

Rather than focusing solely on physical technique, we emphasise discipline, integrity, resilience, and personal responsibility. Each month, students and instructors revisit these commitments to reinforce positive habits both inside and outside the dojang.

The Promise, Pledge, and Principles are recited at the beginning of every class to centre the mind and reinforce personal responsibility. Over time, this repetition builds self-discipline, respect, and internal accountability.

Children's Promise

The Children’s Promise helps young students build respect, responsibility, and self-control from an early age.

To always do my best and never give up.
To obey my parents and teachers.,
To tell the truth and honor my word.
To always be polite.
To never misuse what I learn in class.

Adult's Pledge

The Adult Pledge reinforces accountability, leadership, and constructive application of skills both in training and in everyday life.

To set positive goals and strive to achieve them.
To apply self discipline to further my personal development.
To stand for justice and honor my word.
To promote friendly relationships among all people.
To use what I learn in class in a constructive manner.

Living the Principles in Daily Life

The Promise, Pledge, and Principles are not simply recited at the beginning of class — they are intended to be lived. Through structured training, students learn how to apply these values to school, work, family life, and wider society.

For children, these principles support behaviour, focus, and emotional regulation. For adults, they reinforce leadership, accountability, and resilience. The structured environment of martial arts training allows these values to be practised consistently rather than discussed abstractly.
